Improper Care of Hair
If you wear pigtails or corn rows or use tight hair rollers, it may result in traction alopecia. This type of hair loss is caused by pulling on the hair follicles. If this pulling is stopped before scarring of the scalp develops, hair can resume normal growth. However, it can result in scarring and cause permanent hair loss. Hot oil hair treatments or chemicals used in permanents can cause inflammation of the hair follicle, and can result in scarring and lead to hair loss.

Seeking Medical Care
As with all cases of hair loss it is important to seek medical help to determine its underlying cause.
Your doctor will probably ask you questions about your diet, medicines you're taking, if you've experienced a recent illness and what your hair care routine is.
If you're a woman, your doctor may ask questions about your menstrual cycle, pregnancies or menopause. Your doctor may want to an exam to look for other causes of hair loss. Depending on the doctor’s evaluation, blood tests or a biopsy of your scalp may also be needed.
